What are the guidelines for drawings of the invention in a provisional patent application?

According to U.S. Patent Office guidelines, drawings (illustrations) submitted with a PPA can be informal. That is to say, they do not need to be in any standardized form.

However, the U.S. Patent Office strongly recommends that you submit drawings that are very specific and that adequately depict your invention.

This works to your advantage because highly detailed illustrations make it easier for the U.S. Patent Office to later "relate back" your full patent application to your earlier provisional patent application.

InventionPatenting.com can help you prepare professional illustrations.
