Powered Unicycle Does the Balancing for You!

Ever thought about learning how to ride a unicycle? Tired of walking to your destination but want a less bulky alternative to the Segway? Well, the Honda U3-X is just right for you.
The U3-X is basically a high-tech unicycle that is self-powered and self-balancing which makes it very easy to ride. It brings the the concept of personal mobility to a new level, providing the rider with freedom of movement in any direction forward, backward, sideways, and diagonally, simply by leaning in the desired direction. It utilizes an advanced balance control system developed by Honda from research into human walking dynamics on the ASIMO bi-pedal humanoid robot.

The U3-X employs the worlds first omni-directional driving wheel system, the Honda Omni Traction Drive System, that utilizes a single bi-directional wheel that includes a powered main wheel that drives the U3-X forwardly and rearwardly. A plurality of transversely mounted, tapered rollers are mounted around an outer periphery of the main wheel that are separately powered from the main wheel to drive the U3-X in both lateral directions. Diagonal motion is achieved by driving the main wheel and rollers in coordination.

The U3-X features an elegant look, is lightweight (about 22 pounds), and compact with a foldable seat and retractable footrests. The compact size and one-wheel-drive design of U3-X provides user-friendly and pedestrian-friendly operation. The foot pedals make it easy for the rider to reach the ground and a seat height places the rider at approximately the same eye-level as people who are walking.

The U3-X is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that provides power for up to one-hour of use. Recharging is as simple as plugging in the Honda U3-X to a conventional 110-volt power outlet.

Inventors with Golf Inventions Should Attend the PGA Merchandise Show

Attending industry trade shows is a great way for inventors and other entrepreneurs to get ‘the pulse’ of an industry and network with industry professionals.
Additionally, you can evaluate whether exhibiting your products (based on your invention) at the show would be worthwhile to get wholesalers, retailers, and end customers interested in what you have to offer.

Here is our first trade show listing, the Professional Golfers’ Association Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida that runs from January 26-29, 2011. The show started in 1954 with attendees including all of golf’s top market leaders such as golf professionals, wholesalers, retailers, and regular golfers.

Additionally, there are nearly 1,000 golf vendors and brands exhibiting on the PGA Merchandise Show floor including golf companies of all sizes representing every business sector of golf from market leaders to start-up companies.

The Events Schedule for the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show includes golf industry leaders addressing key issues, educational seminars on golf, and professional networking.

I suggest that you Register to attend this year’s PGA Merchandise Show and get a feel for what opportunities are there to showcase you golf invention next year. Plus, you are probably already an avid golfer who woild really enjoy the seminars and meeting golf professionals from the golfing industry.

If you want to be an exhibitor, there are two PGA Merchandise Show Exhibitor Packages available for your review (in PDF format you can save to your computer).

Note that while the website says that exhibitor registration is still open, it looks to be closed since the show is next week (call or e-mail them if you are interested in exhibiting). However, I believe you can register as a Golf Industry Professional – Non PGA and still attend the show, but not as an exhibitor.

PGA Merchandise Show hours are:

  • Wednesday January 26, 2011 – Outdoor Demo Day
  • Thursday January 27, 2011 – 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Friday January 28, 2011 – 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Saturday January 29, 2011 – 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
